Processing / Plant Manager

    FG Gold Limited has been awarded the Baomahun Gold concession project located in Valunia Chiefdom, Bo District, and is currently in the development phase. To support this project development, FG Gold Limited is seeking a qualified individual to fill the vacant position of a Processing/Plant MANAGER.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Role Purpose: The Processing / Plant Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of the gold processing plant, including crushing, grinding, gravity recovery, leaching, adsorption, elution, gold room, tailings management, laboratory, utilities, and associated infrastructure. The role provides strategic leadership and technical direction to ensure production targets, metallurgical recovery, cost objectives, environmental compliance, and safety standards are achieved while driving continuous improvement across all plant operations. The Plant Manager is accountable for maximizing gold production, optimizing plant performance, developing personnel, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

     

    Plant Operations Leadership

    • Direct and manage all gold processing plant activities.
    • Ensure safe and efficient operation of crushing and screening circuits.
    • Ensure safe and efficient operation of milling and grinding circuits.
    • Ensure safe and efficient operation of gravity recovery systems.
    • Ensure safe and efficient operation of CIL/CIP circuits.
    • Ensure safe and efficient operation of elution and electrowinning circuits.
    • Ensure safe and efficient operation of gold room operations.
    • Ensure safe and efficient operation of tailings storage facilities.
    • Ensure safe and efficient operation of reagent handling systems.
    • Ensure safe and efficient operation of metallurgical laboratories.
    • Deliver production targets in line with annual operating plans.
    • Ensure optimal plant utilization and throughput.
    • Coordinate with Mining, Maintenance, Geology, and Supply Chain departments to achieve business objectives.
    • Lead daily, weekly, and monthly production planning meetings.

     

    Metallurgical Performance Management

    • Monitor and optimize metallurgical recovery.
    • Develop strategies to improve gold recovery and throughput.
    • Develop strategies to improve reagent consumption and energy efficiency.
    • Develop strategies to improve water management.
    • Analyze metallurgical data and identify improvement opportunities.
    • Conduct root cause analyses for process deviations.
    • Implement process optimization initiatives and new technologies.
    • Oversee metallurgical accounting and reconciliation processes.
    • Ensure accurate reporting of production and recovery statistics.

     

    Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

    • Champion a zero-harm culture throughout plant operations.
    • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company standards, and operational procedures.
    • Lead incident investigations and corrective action implementation.
    • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits.
    • Ensure safe handling of cyanide, reagents, explosives interfaces, and hazardous materials.
    • Ensure compliance with environmental permits and regulations.
    • Oversee tailings management and environmental monitoring programs.
    • Promote proactive risk management across all processing activities.

     

    Budgeting and Cost Control

    • Prepare annual operating budgets.
    • Manage departmental expenditure within approved budgets.
    • Monitor production costs and reagent consumption.
    • Monitor maintenance costs and power usage.
    • Monitor labor costs.
    • Identify cost reduction opportunities while maintaining production and safety standards.
    • Approve procurement requests and capital expenditures within authority limits.
    • Deliver financial performance aligned with business objectives.

     

    Maintenance Coordination

    • Work closely with the Maintenance Manager to ensure equipment reliability.
    • Support preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
    • Ensure critical spares inventory is maintained.
    • Coordinate shutdown planning and execution.
    • Improve equipment availability and plant uptime.
    • Participate in asset management and life-cycle planning initiatives.

     

    Continuous Improvement

    • Drive operational excellence initiatives.
    • Establish KPIs for recovery and throughput.
    • Establish KPIs for availability and utilization.
    • Establish KPIs for cost performance.
    • Implement Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent continuous improvement methodologies.
    • Identify bottlenecks and implement process improvements.
    • Evaluate emerging technologies for processing optimization.
    • Lead process improvement projects and plant upgrades.

     

    People Leadership & Development

    • Lead, coach, and develop plant personnel.
    • Build a high-performance operational culture.
    • Conduct workforce planning and succession planning.
    • Ensure employee competency development.
    • Conduct performance reviews and establish development plans.
    • Foster teamwork and collaboration across departments.
    • Ensure compliance with labor laws and company policies.
    • Manage contractors and consultants supporting plant operations.

     

    Reporting & Governance

    • Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and annual operational reports.
    • Report key plant performance metrics to senior management.
    • Maintain accurate operational records and metallurgical accounting.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements.
    • Participate in operational reviews and strategic planning sessions.
    • Support audits and external inspections.

     

    QUALIFICATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

    Educational Background:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Extractive Metallurgy (Required).
    • Master’s Degree in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Engineering Management, or an MBA (Preferred).

     

    Experience:

    • Minimum 10-15 years of mineral processing experience.
    • Minimum 5-8 years in a senior leadership role.
    • Proven experience managing gold processing operations.
    • Hands-on experience with CIL/CIP operations, gravity recovery, elution and electrowinning, gold room management, and tailings storage facilities (Required).
    • Strong experience in plant optimization and metallurgical accounting.
    • Experience in African mining operations (Preferred).
    • Experience commissioning or expanding processing plants (Preferred).
    • Experience with refractory and free-milling gold ores (Preferred).
    • Experience in multi-site mining operations (Preferred).

     

    Languages:

    • Fluency in English.

    Physical Requirements: Site-based position with exposure to processing plant and mining environments.
