Working Towards A Sustainable Mining Industry

Today, there is an expectation on the global mining industry to address the social and environmental impacts of their operations. We believe responsible gold mining can play an important role in supporting sustainable development and delivering considerable benefits to host countries and communities.

Our ESG Philosophy

Leaving A Positive Legacy

At FG Gold, ESG principles are central to our business. We are committed to conducting our mining operations in a responsible and safe manner – respecting the environment and the human rights and wellbeing of our employees, contractors and communities.

Our projects contribute to the socio-economic development of our neighbouring communities through local job creation, supply chain opportunities, education and training.

Since our inception, we have worked in partnership with our communities to prioritise the needs of local people and invest in community projects in the areas of health, education, infrastructure and agriculture. As we transition from developer to gold producer in the years to come, we will continue to deliver on our promise of delivering long term value for all stakeholders.

Leading Environmental Stewardship

Environmental stewardship is at the heart of our operations as we seek to minimise our impact, protect local biodiversity and reduce climate change related risks.

With our Baomahun Gold Project area home to some challenging terrain including hill crests, forest, valley swamps and waterways, our rigorous Environmental, Social and Health Impact Assessment (ESHIA) ensures careful management and protection of local ecosystems and habitats at an international standard.

We recognise the impacts of climate change and water constraints may impact our operations. Therefore, our comprehensive Mine Water Management Plan outlines our best practice approach to water management onsite, including opportunities for water reduction and re-use.

We are investing in renewable energy to power our project as part of a hybrid power generation system, with a 34MW power system incorporating a combination of solar PV, battery energy storage systems and diesel generators.

Our Tailings Management Facility will be designed to exceed modern standards, providing a safe and effective facility subject to regular monitoring and audits.

Our robust environmental management approach has received endorsement from the regulatory authorities, with all environmental licences and permits for the project achieved.

Earning our Social Licence to Operate

The health, safety and wellbeing of our workforce and the people in our surrounding communities is paramount.

We have a genuine commitment to ensuring the highest level of safety for all our onsite employees and contractors. With a strict target of zero harm, we take a proactive approach to health and safety to ensure each and every worker returns home safely at the end of the day.

This respect for fundamental human rights also extends to our neighbouring communities. Through regular genuine engagement with local communities, leaders and authorities, we have established strong mutually beneficial relationships and a commitment to investing in community projects that will create long-lasting benefits.

High Governance Standards

Our approach to good governance is underpinned by our commitment to operate in a safe, ethical and socially responsible manner.

We enjoy a positive working relationship with the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources, National Minerals Agency (NMA) and other key governance institutions. We are committed to remaining fully compliant with our statutory obligations, in line with the Sierra Leone Mines and Minerals Act and other key regulations.

We aim to align with industry best practice and internationally recognised standards and guidelines for sustainable development and environmental management, including the World Gold Council Responsible Gold Mining Principles. Through our project and associated community investment program, we aim to meet all 19 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Our highly experienced and credentialed Board of Directors adheres to best practice corporate governance principles while overseeing the company’s efforts to create sustainable value for all stakeholders.
