On-site Physician/General Practitioner

    ABOUT US

    FG Gold Limited has been awarded the Baomahun Gold concession project located in Valunia Chiefdom, Bo District, and is currently in the development phase. To support this project development, FG Gold Limited is seeking a qualified individual to fill the vacant position of an On-site Physician/General Practitioner.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Role Purpose: The On-site Physician/General Practitioner will serve as the primary medical authority at FG Gold, responsible for delivering 24/7 medical services, including emergency care, occupational health, and basic primary care. This role involves managing the on-site clinic, implementing health surveillance programs, leading medical emergency responses, and conducting routine health screenings for all on-site personnel.

    Emergency Medicine
    ·       Provide medical consultations, diagnosis, and treatment for acute and chronic conditions.

    ·       Coordinate medical response planning with site security, emergency response teams (ERT), and external emergency services to ensure rapid escalation and continuity of care.

    ·       Participate in incident investigations following medical emergencies to identify root causes and recommend preventative health and safety controls.

    Occupational Health

    ·       Conduct pre-employment medicals, fitness-for-work assessments, and annual health screenings (e.g., audiometric, spirometry, and respiratory fit testing).

    ·       Advise management on job-specific medical standards, fatigue management, and occupational exposure limits relevant to mining activities.

    ·       Monitor trends in occupational illness and injury data to support proactive health risk mitigation and workforce wellbeing initiatives.

    Primary Healthcare

    ·       Provide daily primary care for common illnesses and injuries to workers living in the mining camp.

    ·       Provide health education and preventive care guidance to employees, including lifestyle, nutrition, and communicable disease prevention in a camp environment.

    ·       Refer patients to appropriate external specialists or hospitals and coordinate follow-up care post-evacuation or off-site treatment.

    Clinic Management
    ·       Manage the on-site clinic inventory, including medical equipment, supplies, and pharmaceuticals.

    ·       Develop and maintain site medical protocols, emergency response procedures, and clinical standard operating procedures in line with company and regulatory requirements.

    ·       Ensure medical waste management and pharmaceutical storage comply with legal, environmental, and company standards.

    Health and Safety Compliance
    ·       Implement occupational health surveillance programs (dust, noise, heat, chemicals).

    ·       Conduct hygiene inspections of camp, kitchens, and water systems.

    ·       Maintain accurate and confidential electronic medical records.

    Drug and Alcohol Testing

    ·       Perform routine and random, for-cause drug and alcohol testing.

    ·       Interpret drug and alcohol test results, provide medical review where required, and advise management on fitness-for-duty determinations.

    ·       Support rehabilitation, return-to-work, and monitoring programs in accordance with company policy and applicable labor legislation.

    Reporting and Documentation

    ·       Maintain confidential, accurate electronic medical records (EMR) and prepare monthly health surveillance reports for the safety department.

    ·       Analyse health surveillance data to identify emerging risks and recommend targeted intervention programs to management.

    ·       Ensure compliance with data protection, medical confidentiality, and reporting obligations under local and international regulations.

    ·

    Training

    ·       Conduct on-site training for emergency response teams (ERTs) on first aid, hazardous materials handling, and heat illness prevention.

    ·       Develop site-specific medical emergency drills and simulations to test readiness for high-risk scenarios such as blasting injuries, vehicle incidents, and heat-related illness.

    ·       Mentor and assess first responders and ERT members to ensure ongoing competence and compliance with certification requirements.

     

    QUALIFICATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

    Educational Background:

    Holds a Doctor of Medicine (MD/MBBS), Valid medical license to practice (Sierra Leone or eligible for registration), Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification or it’s equivalent

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 3–5 years post-qualification experience
    • Prior experience in a remote mining, oil & gas, or industrial environment is highly preferred

     

    Languages:

    Fluency in English.

     

    Personal Attributes and Competencies:

    • Strong clinical judgment and autonomous decision-making ability
    • Strong diagnostic skills, proficiency in computer literacy for reports, and excellent communication skills
    • Ability to work under pressure in isolated environments
    • Computer literacy and EMR proficiency

     

    Physical Requirements: Excellent physical condition to handle demanding work environments.
