Community Liaison Officer
ABOUT US
FG Gold Limited has been awarded the Baomahun Gold concession project located in Valunia Chiefdom, Bo District, and is currently in the development phase. To support this project development, FG Gold Limited is seeking a qualified individual to fill the vacant position of Community Liaison Officer.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Community Liaison Officer is responsible for maintaining effective, transparent, and constructive relationships between FG Gold and communities located within and around the Company’s operational, exploration, and project areas.
The role serves as a key interface between FG Gold and local communities, traditional authorities, landowners, youth and women’s groups, local government representatives, and other community stakeholders, supporting stakeholder engagement, community consultations, grievance management, local content initiatives, land access activities, and the identification and management of emerging social and community risks.
The role requires a strong field presence and regular interaction with host communities to ensure that community concerns, expectations, and feedback are understood, documented, communicated internally, and addressed appropriately.
The Community Liaison Officer will also communicate accurate and approved information regarding FG Gold’s activities to communities, helping to build trust, reduce misinformation, prevent disputes, and maintain the Company’s social license to operate.
- Serve as a primary day-to-day interface between FG Gold and communities within the Company’s area of influence; develop and maintain constructive relationships with Paramount, Section and Village Chiefs, traditional authorities, landowners, youth and women’s groups, farmers and local government representatives; conduct regular community visits and maintain a visible FG Gold presence; communicate approved information on exploration, mining, project developments and employment processes; gather community feedback and communicate it to the Community Relations Manager.
- Act as an accessible point of contact for community grievances, complaints and concerns; receive and document grievances in accordance with FG Gold’s grievance procedures; refer grievances to the appropriate internal departments for investigation and resolution; monitor agreed resolution actions and escalate sensitive or unresolved issues to the Community Relations Manager; support mediation and conflict-resolution processes where appropriate.
- Maintain regular contact with communities to identify emerging social issues and risks; monitor community sentiment and identify potential risks including demonstrations, land disputes, employment-related tensions and misinformation; immediately communicate significant community risks to the Community Relations Manager; support development of mitigation measures for identified social risks.
- Support engagement with landowners and communities regarding land access requirements; participate in community sensitisation ahead of exploration, drilling, surveying, construction or mining activities; facilitate communication between technical teams and affected communities; identify and report land access concerns or disputes.
- Support implementation of FG Gold’s local content commitments at community level; communicate approved employment opportunities and recruitment processes to local communities; support Human Resources in community engagement related to local recruitment; monitor and report concerns regarding local employment and local content opportunities.
- Support consultation with communities regarding development needs and priorities; assist in implementing FG Gold community development initiatives across education, health, water and sanitation, agriculture, youth development and women’s empowerment; participate in project monitoring and field visits.
- Support development and implementation of community sensitisation campaigns on safety, environmental protection and Company policies; maintain accurate records of community engagements and stakeholder interactions; prepare field visit reports and contribute to weekly and monthly Community Relations reports.
- Work closely with Exploration, Mining, Projects, Environment, HSE, Human Resources, Security and Supply Chain; inform relevant departments of community concerns that may affect planned activities; comply with all Company HSE policies and promote safe, respectful and responsible community engagement.
QUALIFICATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Educational Background:
Holds a Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Community Development, Development Studies, Sociology, Social Sciences, Communications, Public Administration, Social Work, Rural Development or a related discipline. Additional training in Stakeholder Engagement, Community Relations or Conflict Resolution is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in community relations, stakeholder engagement, community development, social performance, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience working directly with rural and local communities, traditional leaders and landowners.
- Experience dealing with community complaints, concerns or grievances, and conducting community meetings and sensitisation activities.
- Previous experience within mining, exploration, construction or extractive industries is desirable.
Technical Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Strong verbal communication and listening skills
- Strong community facilitation and engagement capability
- Ability to manage conflict and emotionally charged situations professionally
- Strong understanding of cultural sensitivities and traditional leadership structures
- Basic to intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Fluency in relevant local languages is highly desirable
Languages:
Fluency in English.
Physical Requirements:
- Site-based Greenfield mining project; remote mine location.
- Roster-based employment.
- Exposure to construction, commissioning and operational environments.
- Occasional work outside normal business hours during shutdowns, commissioning and critical activities.
- Frequent interaction with operational and project teams.
