Biodiversity Specialist
ABOUT US
FG Gold Limited has been awarded the Baomahun Gold concession project located in Valunia Chiefdom, Bo District, and is currently in the development phase. To support this project development, FG Gold Limited is seeking a qualified individual to fill the vacant position of a Biodiversity Specialist.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Role Purpose: The Biodiversity Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of biodiversity management programs across the mine site. The role ensures compliance with environmental regulations, international standards, and project commitments related to biodiversity conservation.
The Biodiversity Specialist supports sustainable mining practices by minimizing ecological impacts, managing biodiversity risks, and implementing mitigation and rehabilitation strategies. He/she will provide technical advice on biodiversity issues and promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable development across the site.
Biodiversity Management & Conservation
- Develop and implement the Biodiversity Management Plan (BMP).
- Conduct baseline biodiversity assessments and ecological surveys.
- Identify and assess biodiversity risks and impacts.
- Implement mitigation hierarchy measures (avoid, minimize, restore, offset).
- Oversee habitat restoration and rehabilitation programs.
- Monitor flora and fauna, including species of conservation concern.
Environmental Compliance & Monitoring
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and international standards.
- Coordinate biodiversity monitoring programs.
- Maintain records and prepare biodiversity reports.
- Support audits and inspections.
- Ensure compliance with permit conditions.
Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting
- Engage with communities, NGOs, and regulators.
- Support conservation awareness programs.
- Collaborate with internal teams and consultants.
- Prepare biodiversity reports and provide technical advice.
Safety & Sustainability Leadership
- Maintain a cooperative interest in the health and safety of oneself, fellow workers, and local communities.
- Wear PPE where required and follow all safe work procedures.
- Intervene when necessary and provide safety leadership by example.
- Comply with Local Content requirements and contribute positively to workforce development.
QUALIFICATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, ecology, biology, or related field.
- Postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
Experience:
- 5-10 years’ experience in biodiversity management.
- Experience in mining or infrastructure projects preferred.
Languages:
- Strong communication skills (English).
Personal Attributes and Competencies:
- Comprehensive knowledge of biodiversity and ecology.
- Experience with GIS and environmental tools.
- Strong reporting and communication skills.
- Ability to promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
- Commitment to health and safety leadership.
Physical Requirements: Site-based role with fieldwork in natural habitats and interaction with operations and communities.
